The Austin Family Cemetery
William & Dicy Austin were buried in the adjacent cemetery, along with ten of their eleven children. These include son Philip West Austin II, who tragically died in 1827 at two years of age. Son William Jasper Austin died in 1851 at age 27. Daughters Minerva Emaline Austin (age 19), Dicy Jane Austin (age 21), and Elizabeth Green Austin (age 26) died in 1855 from typhoid within a ten-day period. Other daughters brought their new families by marriage to the cemetery: the Alspaugh and Frasher families. Some neighbors were also buried here. There are several graves of the Harnish and Tucker families. John Walraven, the Superintendent of the nearby Wright Lime Kilns, was killed in 1899 by an explosion and was buried here. Additionally, several stillborn babies delivered by local physician, Dr. Mathis, were buried here. Fifty-five known gravesites have been located in the Austin Cemetery.
